The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) has awarded a new $10.9M contract to VNS Federal Services (Veolia), a subsidiary of Veolia North America, to continue the operation & maintenance of the Paradox Valley Unit (PVU) desalination project in Colorado. Veolia has operated PVU since 2014. With the most recent award, Veolia will continue operation of the facility until March 26, 2030.

The PVU facility operates 365 days per year, 24 hours a day and is part of the broader Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Program. The facility prevents the natural salt load, estimated at 200,000 tons of salt per year, from degrading the water quality of the Colorado River. Brine groundwater recovered from the Paradox Valley is injected into a 15,889-foot-deep injection well – the deepest well of its kind in the world.

Veolia’s performance of the PVU contract has been conducted with exceptional attention to safety. Since Veolia initiated performance of this contract in 2014, they have experienced zero lost time incidents or OSHA recordables.

“Veolia is proud of our contributions to enhance water quality in the Colorado River basin,” said Steve Moore, CEO of VNS Federal Services, adding “The latest contract award is a reflection of the great partnership and trust we have established with the Bureau of Reclamation. We are looking forward to continuing our performance over the term of this contract.”
